I have lived in the valley for almost forty years. I am married, have two daughters
and three grandchildren. I retired in 2009 from teaching at Hopwood Hall College.
This is my second term as a governor at Balladen -
I have served on the Governing Body at Balladen CP School as a parent governor and

I began my career at Balladen CP, spending a very happy 13 year in the school. While working for Rochdale and Manchester I developed a background in Education and Children's Services at both front line and strategic levels. The knowledge, understanding and skills I have gained over the years informs my role as a governor.
I am a family man with three children. I enjoy most sports, astronomy, astrophotography and animals. I currently don’t work but am a full time carer for my wife and am studying accounting at college.
I am a parent governor and was appointed to the governing body in September 2015. I am originally from the south of England but have now lived in Rossendale for thirteen years. I have a degree in History but have spent most of my career working with children and their families. I am very passionate about the early years and primary years of a child’s education and how a good start in their education can open up many different opportunities for them. I am currently working in the social care sector and have two children attending Balladen School.
I am a mother of three and live in Rossendale. I started my career in education at Leabrook Short Stay School in 2002 and then joined the Schools Finance Team in 2006. I started as School Business Manager at Balladen Primary in July 2011 and enjoy my job very much. I am currently studying Level 5 in School Business Management and hope to complete this course in January 2019. My oldest child is a qualified electrician and my other two children are currently studying at university. In my spare time I enjoy walking with my dog Lillie, swimming and cooking.
Many people reading this will know that I have been involved with Balladen School for many years. I was first appointed as Key Stage 1 leader with teaching responsibility for Year 2. After having my second child I moved into Reception where I worked as part of a dynamic team with fellow governor Andrea Horrocks. I gained promotion to Assistant Head and this is my second time of acting up as Headteacher.
Why have I stayed at this school for so long?
Balladen is an amazing school. It works because everyone is committed to improving the life opportunities for all the children. I feel proud and privileged to lead such a dedicated team of professionals. We all love coming to work! An advisor and Ofsted Inspector are quoted as saying that they wish they could bottle the “Balladen Philosophy” and use it to transform other schools.
I have been a clinical orthotist specialising in Paediatrics and Neurology for 33 years, working in both the NHS and private sector. I have experience of running my own orthotic service company and management within a large national orthotic/prosthetic service provider.
I have two adult children, the youngest working as a year 4 class teacher in Poole, Dorset, the eldest working as a vet in Barnsley. I am a member of Edgeside Baptist church, like all things outdoors e.g. camping, skiing etc, especially walking the families 2 border terriers.
I am married with one child. I have been a governor previously and I was part of the finance committee. This time my role involves being part of the curriculum committee.
I have worked at Balladen school for over twenty years. I have worked in both Key Stage 1 and 2 and now I teach in the EYFS Classroom. I have always enjoyed my time at Balladen as every day is different and it’s great to see the children grow academically, socially and emotionally. Having an impact on our children’s lives is an important role; one which I consider to be a responsibility and a privilege.
I enjoy being valued as part of a team at Balladen and like developing new relationships with our parents and children.
I have lived and worked in Rossendale all my life, and I have been the Pre-
I have been teaching for 26 years, the past 14 of which have been the most rewarding,
here at Balladen. Our school is a very special place, which holds many happy memories
for me. I attended Balladen as a child. It was then, as it is now, a warm, welcoming
place where I made lifelong friendships, learnt the value of working together and
taking pride in my community. I am married with two lovely daughters, who both also
attended Balladen, and have since moved on to BRGS, and then CRGS to continue with
their studies. At Balladen I have been SENCO for over 10 years and can say that
each and every day it is a joy to come to school. I feel very privileged and proud
to work with our children, encourage them to have the aspiration and self-
I have lived in Rossendale all my life and started my school life at Balladen. I have always had happy memories of that time. I am a proud mother to two boys, one a qualified electrician currently studying for his HND, and a 7 year old miracle child who is also enjoying his time at Balladen. I work, and always have worked, in housing where I support people within their homes. I am new to the post of governor but am enjoying learning about how our fantastic school is run.
